Rooftop Prince’s Happy Ending Is In Fact the Saddest Ending

Drama series “Rooftop Prince” finally completed the long journey.

Mysteries, romantic love, humors and other elements in “Rooftop Prince’ brought many sense of freshness and laughter to the audience. Through excellent acting of actors, and the idea of going back and forth between the past and present, it won audience’s praise.

But nearing the ending, some irritating elements of murder, kidnapping, imprisonment and others were used indiscriminately, creating some loopholes instead, unable to sustain the reputation from the first half. But nevertheless, the final episode of “Rooftop Prince” still ushered in warm and beautiful ending.

The mystery of “live is also dead, dead is also live” which appeared once the drama started, the final answer turned out to be lotus. Lotus is a flower that grows out of mud, the blooms pure and untainted, just like dead buried in the mud, then could only able to grow into beautiful flowers. Thus, the meaning of live is also dead, dead is also live is similar to lotus, and is very similar to the life of the character “Bu Yong”.

What’s hidden inside the heart of Bu Yong for life is the love for Lee Gak, which was expressed through letter only when dead. And this kind of death is also the only way Bu Yong can express her inner heart to Lee Gak. Because after knowing Lee Gak is in danger, Bu Yong does not hesitate to disregard her own live to save Lee Gak, and this is intimately tied up with the behavior of Park Ha who is reincarnation of Bu Yong.

At the same time, “Rooftop Prince” allows viewers to connect in mind the characters in modern times through the characters of the past through flexible usag eof “through time and space”, “reincarnation” and other materials. This had to depend on flawless screenwriter who made tight underlay beforehand.

Yong Tae Yong who is the reincarnation of Lee Gak is unconsciously attracted by Park Ha after seeing Park Ha in the United States. The kind of ‘attract’ of Yong Tae Yong is due to the regret by Lee Gak to Bu Yong before parting. Therefore after a long period of time, Park Ha saw the shadow of Lee Gak when seeing Yong Tae Yong who is reincarnation of Lee Gak, foretelling the new love is about to begin.

And Crown Prince who wants to uncover the mystery of the death of Crown Princess from the outset, is fated to return to Joseon Dynasty after the mystery is solved. Therefore, the love of Lee Gak and Park Ha that couldn’t transcending time and space to begin, ultimately could only return to their respective times, and return to the fate that gave by that era.

If Lee Gak reincarnates with the body of Yong Tae Yong who is unconscious, and then meet with Park Ha, where the two of them still have the beautiful memories of the past, then it can only be called grand happy ending. But “Rooftop Prince” ultimately did not end with a grand happy ending, and precisely because of this, it makes audience to have very sour feeling. To the two persons whether it’s Lee Gak’s reincarnation or Yong Tae Yong in the encounter with Park Ha, leaving more room for imagination by the audience.

“Rooftop Prince” brought laughter and tears to the audience at the same time for 3 months. Lee Gak who spends the rest of his life longing for Park Ha, and Park Ha who longing for Lee Gak and falls in love with Yong Tae Yong, to some extend seems to be a happy ending, but this ending inevitable is also the saddest ending.
